High school student Kei Nagai is struck dead in a grizzly traffic accident, but immediately revives to learn that he may not be like every other human. Instead, he may be a mysterious almost immortal being granted not only the powers of rejuvination but the abilities to see supernatural beings. Scared, he runs away, and is aided in his escape from society by his friend. Unfortunately for Kei, the manhunt is on and he will soon be caught within a conflict between mankind and others like him as they prepare to fight a new war based on terror. (Summary by Kodansha USA)
This archive represents the first manga I've livetweeted: Ajin. This was such a thrilling read, I found myself caught up after almost a month (which is probably the fastest i've ever read a manga in it's entirety, because its last chapter got released the month after I caught up).
The main villain, Sato, is definitely the highlight of the series, he's so cool!! If I had to make a list for my favorite villains à la top ten video, he would definitely be up there. Don't worry, there are other good and interesting characters in this manga (Tanaka and Tosaki are my personal favorites), but they don't quite steal the show like Sato does.
Overall, a very good manga! If you find yourself interested after looking through my livetweets, then I highly recommend checking it out!
As always, post tweet additions will be shown (like this).
Highlights include:
first chapter seems really promising, the reveal that our protag is a demi-human low key gave me chills. will definitely be reading more of this when i have the time
also the monster designs so far have been impeccable 10/10
oh yeah he's my goat
holy shit
BRUHHHH LOOK AT THE TOP OF HIS HEAD
average day at walmart
accurate representation of what's going through my mind rn
some people be out here having no fucking heads and expect us to be ok with it
chapter 30 gotta be one of the best chapters in the entirety of ajin
sato is such a raw and real villain in a way that's unique to ajin alone. his addiction to death-defying thrills combined with the fact that he cant die makes him absolutely terrifying.
I like to think that he has this sort of protagonist complex (that's not what that means...) where it didnt matter how much he'd die, he'd find a way to get his fix. I think this is best exemplified in chapter 19 where he straight up crashes a plane full of passengers into grant pharma.
tldr: i fucking love sato man, it's crazy how he became one of my favorite villains of all time in a matter of days
